In 2000, Walt established The Rough Notes Company Community Service Award to honor those agents who volunteer their time, efforts, and financial resources to benefit others. The company donates up to six cash gifts to the charities the winning agents' efforts support.

Walt was honored by the Insurance Marketing Communication Association in 2001 for his 25 year commitment to supporting the independent agency systems when he was presented the organization's prestigious Golden Torch Award.
